Ministries

 

Ministerial Team

The Associate Ministers support the Pastor in all of his efforts to include; conducting worship services, assisting in the ordinances of baptism, the Holy Communion, and Decision counseling. The ministerial team also serves in the areas of preaching, teaching, baby dedications, weddings and funerals.

Deacons

The Deacons support the Pastor in all of his endeavors to include; assisting in the ordinances of the church. Providing spiritual counsel, comfort and visitation to the sick, the shut-in, bereaved, elderly and distressed.

Deaconess

The Deaconess support the Pastor in all of his endeavors including; attending to the sick, shut-in, bereaved, elderly and the distressed. The Deaconess provide biblical counsel, comfort and assistance especially to the women of our congregation and community. The Deaconess disciple young women and guide them in all walks of life, by leading a Christian life of example. They also, assist with female baptism candidates and prepare the Lord’s Table for Holy Communion and assist in serving the same.

Missionaries

Provide support to the lost, the sick, shut-in, bereaved, imprisoned, and others. The missionaries serve as Social services liaisons by connecting those in need with the appropriate local social service agencies. Coordinate senior fellowship activities and establish phone links for seniors and home-bound members. The missionaries also serve during funerals services and bereavement counseling.

Home and Foreign Missions Team

The purpose of this ministry is to identify, develop and promote home and foreign mission’s partnerships to fulfill the Great Commission, and leads the church in her efforts to aid in disaster relief. The Home & Foreign Missions Team facilitate an Annual Missions Conference at the church to promote missions awareness and to raise funds and in-kind gifts for mission endeavors.

Evangelism & Outreach Team

Serves the entire UMBC family as well as persons who are beyond the walls of the church. Members called to this ministry are equipped to better serve the 21st century community through evangelism. Training is presented in Decision Counseling, Prayer-walking, Street Ministry, and how to reach the lost in our families, our professions, our neighborhoods, and persons who are in other non-Christian religions and cults. This Ministry Team facilitates an annual Evangelism Explosion event in the surrounding community. UMBC Evangelism & Outreach Team is committed to “Make Christ Known” by winning thousands of souls for Jesus Christ.

Decision Counseling Team

This team of trained, equipped and prepared servants connect with those responding to invitations to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, as well as those persons seeking to rededicate their lives to God. The Decision Counselors help clarify the decisions and direct persons in their next steps toward spiritual maturity and church membership.

New Member Ministry

 

Prayer Ministry

Jesus has commanded His House to be called a House of Prayer. The Prayer Ministry is committed to fulfilling such a mandate. This team of intercessors and warriors serve the most important ministry of the church in seeking the Divine intervention of God in the church and her ministry, as well as exercising our royal priesthood in presenting the members and community to the Lord. The Prayer Ministry coordinates the Wednesday Noonday Prayer Service and the monthly day of Prayer on the third Friday of every month. Each year we have a Prayer Conference and a Prayer Vigil. We believe GOD for a strong army of intercessors and warriors.

 

Christian Education Ministries

The Christian Education Ministry of UMBC provides sound christian educational oversight, instruction, training and mentoring opportunities. Those who attend any Christian education classes and activities at UMBC will be enhanced, enlightened, encouraged, empowered and equipped to live the victorious Christian life towards cultivating strong families and communities.

The Christian Education Ministry assists the Pastor in developing Church educational workshops, seminars and retreats to accomplish the mission and actualize the vision, to include but not limited to the following:

v  Teaching to Make a Difference - Seminars - to challenge teachers to pursue new levels of excellence in teaching and equip them with the tools necessary for effective Biblical instruction.

v  Vacation Bible School/Camp - Our Vacation Bible Camp is a summer program that is open to the community and designed to teach and minister to all age groups within the course of one week. A variety of spiritual subject matters are covered along with crafts, sports and recreation, drama and music.

v  African American History - This ministry plans activities during the month of February in recognition of Black History Month.

v  Annual Church Retreat – Designed for Vision and Leadership development

v  College Planning – serves to assist students and parents in college preparation

v  AWANA Ministry – (upcoming)

v  Ministry Leadership Training – Assists ministries in leadership training.

 

Sunday Church School

The mission of the Sunday Church School is to teach the Word of God so that people are lead to salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ and maturity in their walk with Christ. The Church Sunday School meets every Sunday at 9:30am.

 

Men’s Ministry

To help men envision, embrace, and actualize their leadership roles in the home church and community.

 

OVERCOMERS - Male Support Group: Overcomers create a strong brotherhood of supporting relationships of men who are truly sincere in their feelings and beliefs about wanting to improve every area of their lives. Realizing that we are our brother’s keeper the overcomers watch over one another.

 

Women's Ministry

The Women’s Ministry exists to spread the love of God and to create means by which the women of UMBC and community may form closer bonds. To strengthen ALL women

 

Youth Ministry

This ministry exists to provide age appropriate Christian experiences and activities for children and youth to come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and apply the Word of God in every area of their lives, thus becoming committed Christians very early in life.

v  Youth Council – A team of youth designing, planning, and implementing Christian Youth activities under the supervision of adult advisors.

v  Children’s Ministry – Elementary school age ministry.

v  Daughters of Promise –Middle/high school young ladies who are confident in who they are, where they are going and how to walk in their God given destiny, (spiritually, physically and culturally).

v  Young Lions – African American Male Rites of Passage program is designed to meet the emotional, behavioral, and spiritual needs of male adolescents between ages 9 and 18. Our effort is to begin to cultivate emotional balance, behavioral modification, and spiritual guidance in a comfortable environment for male adolescents. We utilize the S-I-M-B-A concept (Strong, Intelligent, Manly, Brave and A leader).

v  Junior Deacons – (Upcoming ministry) to train teen males in leadership and service.

v  Junior Missionaries – (Upcoming ministry) to train young people to serve God by serving others.

 

Worship Arts Ministry

UMBC includes the arts and their place and purpose in the lives of Christians. We realize that the role of all art forms, with consideration of the liturgical value of dance, step, and drama is based in scripture. The Worship Arts Ministry reveals the glory and nature of God; give expression to our love and communion with God; communicate the Gospel in creative way and give pleasure to the people of God.

Music Ministry

The mission of the Music Ministry is to help bring souls to Christ by presenting a range of religious music that communicates God's Word, His love, and His call to worship and meditate on Him; that prepares hearts and minds to receive His messages and to answer His call to stewardship and service. The Holy Spirit uses the music ministry to teach, inspire, and convict. The deepest spiritual needs of people can be reached through music and the ministry of the choir.

The Music Ministry consists of four choirs:

v  The Voices of Union – Adult choir –

v  The Victory Mass Choir – Comprised of members of other choirs and non-choir members organized for special occasions.

v  Youth Choir – Children ages 5 years and above –

v  Male Chorus – Men’s Choir –

v  Total Praise Ensemble – Young adult choir

Persons interested in joining a choir may come to a rehearsal and speak to the respective director.

 

Ushers Ministry

The service of the usher is an offering to God; an offering of the best of a person’s talent, time and experience. Ushering as a ministry of service is not only marked by efficiency and dedication, but it must be marked by helpfulness. It is the job of the usher to maintain an atmosphere of worship and to insure that worshippers are comfortable and that nothing inhibits their focus on the worship of God.

 

Hospitality Ministry Team

The Greeters Ministry is a team of organized and trained people who officially represent the Pastor and the church, equipped to provide a personal expression of Christian warmth and welcome to worshipers as well as new members and seekers. This ministry focuses on the needs of the people from the time they approach the church entrances, until they meet our ushers and are seated in the pew. The result of the work of church Greeters, when executed with love, is a plus factor in the total ministry of the church, and an extension and enhancement of one of the church’s highest virtues: kindness.

 

Nurses Ministry

The Nurses Ministry provides us with the responsive service of promoting well-being, allowing those worshipping to be safe and secure in case of incident or injury. The members of this ministry are available whenever duty calls. This ministry demands skill, as well as kindhearted service to those in need through ministering to the needs of those who are sick among us in ways determined medically feasible.

 

Health & Wellness Ministry

Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and temple maintenance is part of our stewardship. The Health & Wellness Ministry’s mission is to provide information and support to help us take care of our physical and psychological health. The H&W Ministry provides workshops on nutrition, fitness, medical conditions, and the health care system.
